The Department of English and Literary Studies came into existence during the first semester of 2013/2014 academic session after the National Universities Commission (NUC) had approved its establishment following the Commission’s earlier Resource Assessment visit to Lead City University, Ibadan.
The Department is now in its fourth year and will graduate its first set of students at the end of this 2016/2017 academic session.
Dr. Abel Omotosho Faniran was educated at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where he obtained his B.A. (Hons) English in 1974, his PGDE in 1978, his M.A (English as a Second Language, ESL) in 1979, and at the University of Ilorin where he obtained his Ph.D in Language Education in 2004.
He joined the staff of Lead City University as Lecturer II on 1st June 2006 after retiring as Senior Principal Lecturer from Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun where he had worked for 25 years. He is now a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English and Literary Studies.
Dr. Faniran is a member of many professional bodies including National Association of Teachers and Researchers in English as a Second Language, English Scholars’ Association of Nigeria (formerly Nigerian English Studies Association), Reading Association of Nigeria and Association of Nigerian Authors.
He has published one (1) novel, six (6) text books on English Language and has many chapters in books of readings. His articles have also appeared in many learned journals.
